Overview of Martinique
Martinique is a popular tourist destination, nicknamed the Island of Flowers,it attracts tourists and holidaymakers from all over the world.
Located in the centre of the Caribbean Archipelago, Martinique is a small island about 64 km long and 30 km wide. It is dominated by Pelee Mountain, which rises to 1,397 metres.
Martinique is characterized by its diversity of landscapes such as beaches, steep cliffs, green hills , rainforest or even steep mountains.
The south of Martinique is rather dry and the relief is low. It is made up of bleak areas on which vegetation is less important. It has the most beautiful coves, bays and beaches. It is in this region that we can still see wooden creole houses. The South is the tourist region by excellence. With its numerous hotel facilities, the south receives most of the flow of tourists. The beaches of Salines, Sainte Anne, Sainte Luce, Diamant and Pointe du Bout are the most popular.
Northern Martinique is more mountainous. The west coast is subject to the influence of the Caribbean Sea with its beaches of volcanic sand, the beach of Carbet is a good example of this; the east coast faces the assaults of the Atlantic, the beaches located in "Lorrain" are forbidden to swim because too dangerous. The towns are less crowded, but the landscape is worth a visit. We strongly advise you to go there.
